Overview of the J2534 PassThru Standard

This standard defines a communication protocol between diagnostic software and a diagnostic interface (adapter). If both the software and the adapter declare support for the J2534 standard, they can operate together. This regulation enables a workshop to use a single diagnostic interface for diagnosing and programming vehicles from different manufacturers.

The diagnostic interface must be certified by each automotive manufacturer. Some manufacturers allow their diagnostic software to work with non-certified diagnostic interfaces, but in this case, they assume no responsibility for potential issues that may arise when using such an adapter.

General Usage Procedure

1. Purchase the software or a subscription from the specific vehicle manufacturer.
2. Install the software provided with the ScanDoc Compact adapter. This will install the necessary DLL files into your computer system and make the required entries in the Windows OS registry.
3. In the settings of the purchased software, select your ScanDoc Compact J2534 adapter.
4. Following the official guidelines, perform the necessary operations in the manufacturer's software: ECU reprogramming or vehicle system diagnostics.
